GUM ‘A Field’
Viognier, Heathcote
2023

2023 GUM ‘A Field’ Viognier, Heathcote, Victoria.
Viognier grown on the pre-Cambrian era soils of Heathcote, Victoria.
Organically grown viognier from Toolleen was pressed firmly as whole clusters. The juice was fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel and seasoned Stockinger puncheon. An expressive wine - Earl Grey tea, white flower potpourri and herbal inflections lead to fuzzy white peach and tangerine zest.
I am deeply fond of the gastronomic white wines of the Rhone valley and encourage you to enjoy this wine with food.
‘It’s a firm and tense viognier, understated in a way, light in its viognier credentials but has good textural appeal, a sluice of fine, minerally lift and ebullient perfume that hauls in sweeet stone fruit, citrus blossom and ripe citrus fruit to anchor us into the variety. A slip and slide in the palate, a cool, briny finish in tow, between, levity and a sense of purity. A gentle wine. A moreish wine. It’s good.’
