GUM ‘A Field’
Viognier, Heathcote
2024

2024 GUM ‘A Field’ Viognier, Heathcote, Victoria.
Viognier grown on the pre-Cambrian era soils of Heathcote, Victoria.
Organically grown viognier from Toolleen was pressed firmly as whole clusters. The juice was fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel and seasoned Stockinger puncheons. An expressive wine - Earl Grey tea, white flower potpourri and herbal inflections lead to fuzzy white peach and tangerine zest.
I am deeply fond of the gastronomic white wines of the Rhone valley and encourage you to enjoy this wine with food.
‘A Heathcote field, at that. And viognier the focus.
This is excellent.
It has depth and flavour, potency and poise. A chalky resilience in texture, a squeaky, chewy finish, and amongst all that dry apricot, nectarine, light pear, jasmine tea, frangipani and preserved lemon fruit characters abound. Everything just so here; a very structured, serious expression that doesn’t mind being laid back, tight and firm. That being said, there’s enough exuberant perfume to go around and sweet spice wafts through enticingly. Very good.’
